A Studies on Microbiological Characteristics of Salmonellosis

Abstract
The author have reviewed a series 51 patients with salmonellosis who were proved to be culture-positive and admitted to Chosun University Hospital from September 1981 to August 1982.
The following results were obtained :
1. The results of Salmonella group isolated from each district were observed on 32 patients (62.7%) in Gwang ju, 5 patients (9.8%) in Wha soon, 4 patients (7.8%) in Gwang san. The isolated strains were identified with 24 strains (49.1%) of S. para A, 21 strains (42.1%) of S. typhi and 4 strains of S. choleraesuis and, 2 strains of S. gallinarium were detected.
2. There was no significant sexual difference in frequency. The Peak age of the incidence was in the twenties and thirties 41.3% of total patients. The seasonal preva lance was the most prominant in fall 39.2% and 35.3% in summer.
3. The results of culture for salmonella group revealed positive in blood of 33 patients (76.7%), in stool of 8 patients (25.0%).
4. Widal reaction was positive in 15 patients (29.4$) in O titer and H titer and 5 patients (9.8%) in para A and 3 patients (5.9%) in para B.
5. The susceptibility pattern of antimicrobial agents for the isolated strains of salmonella group were sensitive to ampicillin in the 49 strains (96.1%), chloramphenicol in the 46 strains (90.2%), cephalosporin in the 44 strains (86.3%).
